The Center was established in 2003 under a joint project between Bulgaria and Switzerland. He was the first licensed zoo in Bulgaria and is unique both in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe. It covers an area of 160 decares covered with 40-years-old vegetation. The Center is a home to over 100 animals from 30 species and 26 bird species, including pheasants, peacocks, ostriches, chickens, ducks and geese. Among the latest additions to the animal kingdom are the raccoons, the baby aurochs born here and a pair of brown bears.
The Center inhabitants live in an environment similar to their natural habitats. The animals are not caged but live in wooden cabins. Nests were created for storks and pelicans and pastures for the horses. The visitors have direct contact with most of the animals. The zoo also hosts a “Green School” for children aged 7 to 14 years, while residents and visitors of Dobrich can enjoy parties and outdoor picnics. Visitors are provided a variety of attractions – walks with a llama, pony or a donkey cart, scout camps, games and educational programs.
