In 2003, on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the birth of Dora Gabe – a poet, a translator and a public figure, born and raised in Dobrudzha – were organized the Literary Festivals “Dora Gabe”. In the same year, as a sign of appreciation for the great poet, the Dobrich City Council introduced the National Literary Prize “Dora Gabe”. The prize is awarded every five years for significant artistic achievements in the spirit of Dora Gabe’s message and contribution to national literature. For the first time the prize was awarded to the poet Elka Nyagolova, the Publishing House “Plamak” with director Georgi Konstantinov and the poet Ivan Atanasov. The Festivals take place every five years in August, September and October. In 2008, during the celebrations of the 120th anniversary of Dora Gabe’s birth, the National Literary Prize “Dora Gabe” was given to the poet Liliana Stefanova, while the poet, translator and public figure Leda Mileva received honorary distinction.
